If you are using QuickBooks Online and our Transaction Pro Importer you can easily include sales tax on your sales and purchase transactions. We have a free thirty day trial available here. The fields are a little different depending on if your QuickBooks Online company is a US based business or not so please be sure to review the appropriate screen shots below.
The sales tax fields are available on the following transaction types:
- Bills (non US companies only)
- Checks (non US companies only)
- Credit Card Charges (non US companies only)
- Journal Entries (non US companies only)
- Purchase Orders (non US companies only)
- Sales Receipts
- Vendor Credits (non US companies only)
Setting Tax for QuickBooks Online US Companies
Line Taxable: If you leave this field blank the checkbox will not be checked. If you want this box to be checked provide 1, -1, t, true, y, yes.
Tax Rate: Include the name of the sales tax rate (do not include the percentage).
TaxAmt: You can provide the dollar amount of the tax in your import file but make sure that the total tax for the entire order repeats on every line. You are also required to provide the TaxRate.
Setting Tax for QuickBooks Online Non US Companies
LineTaxCode: Tax or VAT column in the body of the transaction. Please note that the Intuit QuickBooks API does not allow developers to set tax amounts. Tip: For a list of valid Sales Tax / VAT codes to use, in QBO select Sales Tax / VAT and then view tax rates.
Amounts Include Tax:
Exclusive of Tax – Use the following values: 0, f, false, n, no taxexcluded.
Inclusive of Tax – Use the following values: 1, -1, true, y, yes, taxinclusive.
Out of scope of VAT – Use the following value: 2, not applicable.
